Kunzman guide for simply growing hops
Planting
- Obtain hop rhizomes from your local homebrew shop. Freshhops.com on the web also sells hop rhizomes.
- The roof of your house will have a little awning, screw two hooks three feet apart into this awning. (make sure to get a decent size hook that can stand the weight of the hops.)
- Drive a wooden stake into the ground that has a u nail driven into the top of it.
- String bailing twine through the unail in the stake and tie off on both hooks on the roof.
- Place a small mound near the stake from the rhizome.
- Plant rhizome 1 ½ to 2 inches below surface.
- When the hops grow to six inches tall twist them clockwise around the twine.
- Hops will be faily small the first years because there is no root system. They will grow back bigger next year
Harvesting
- Cut down bines from the top.
- Pull off hops and place on wire screen out of sunlight
- After hops dry, Place them in a Ziploc bag and place in freezer
